Box Score WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - Junior Casey Magyar and freshman Trevor Symbal had two hits apiece in the MSOE baseball team's season-opener, an 8-2 loss to Hanover on the first day of its Florida road trip.
The Panthers (3-2) broke open a 1-1 game with three runs in the third inning to pull away from the Raiders (0-1).
MSOE responded to a first-inning run by Hanover with a single run in the third inning. Sophomore Brad Schonder led off with a double and, after a sacrifice bunt, scored on an infield single by Magyar.
The Panthers then opened the third inning with three-straight extra-base hits on their way to three runs in the frame for a 4-1 lead. They then tacked on another run in the fifth inning.
Junior Tyler Doyle drove in Magyar in the seventh inning to pull within 5-2, but that was as close as the Raiders would get. Hanover then put up another three-spot in the eighth inning to put the game out of reach.
Freshman Michael Boehmer (0-1) got the start on the mound for the Red & White, conceding three earned runs in four innings. He struck out four in his collegiate debut. Jake Bauer (1-0) struck out nine in eight innings, giving up two runs, for his first win of the season.
The Raiders continue their trip in the Sunshine State Saturday, playing Clark in a doubleheader.
