MSOE Drops Games with St. Vincent, RHIT

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The MSOE baseball team dropped a pair of games Thursday, falling to St. Vincent 13-2 in game one and Rose-Hulman 8-5 in the day's second game.

The Raiders (0-9) jumped out to early leads in both games, but could not hold on.

MSOE played from the lead for the first half of its game with RHIT, with junior Tyler Doyle scoring runs in the first and third innings for a 2-0 lead.

The Fightin' Engineers tied the game with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third, but the Raiders pulled ahead with two more runs in their next at bat. Freshman Ryan Newman drove in a run with a ground out and Doyle followed with an RBI single to make it 4-2.

Rose-Hulman responded with six unanswered runs to jump out to an 8-2 lead. The designated home team scored twice in the bottom half of the fourth inning and put the game out of reach with four runs in the sixth.

The Red & White added a run the eighth inning, but that was as close as it would get.

Doyle went 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI in the game. Junior Ryan Miller also had two hits, while junior Casey Magyar scored twice and freshman Jimmy Carrington reached three times on a hit and two walks.

Carrington also collected a hit in the first game and extended his hitting streak to eight games.

On the mound, freshman Michael Boehmer got the start and struck out six over five innings. He allowed four runs on eight hits and walked two. Newman hurled the last three innings and was hurt by errors, as he allowed four runs—all unearned.

In game one, MSOE was relegated to just the runs scored in the first inning as St. Vincent scored 12 times in the fifth through eighth innings to end the game prematurely in the eighth inning due to a 10-run rule.

Freshman Trevor Symbal drove in both Raider runs with a single in the first inning to make it 2-0. Senior Josh Kundinger (0-2) made the start on the mound and worked around six hits over the first four innings to allow just one run and maintain a 2-1 MSOE lead.

The Bearcats broke through with four runs in the fifth to seize the lead and never looked back.

Newman and Symbal finished with two hits apiece in the first game.

MSOE's trip to Florida continues with a single game against Loras Friday.
