Box Score WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Freshman Ryan Newman went 3-for-5 and both freshman Jimmy Carrington and senior Jake Roberts drove in two runs, but it was not enough as the MSOE baseball team lost to Loras 12-7 Friday afternoon.
The Raiders (0-10) never led, but rallied against the Duhawks (2-1) in the ninth inning, striking for three runs and stranding the bases loaded.
Roberts went 2-for-4 in the game with a double, while junior Tyler Doyle had a pair of hits and scored three runs. Doyle reached on a walk and had a triple in the game.
Carrington also scored twice and extended his hitting streak to nine games.
Loras jumped out to a 3-0 lead, scoring once in the first and two more times in the second.
The Raiders got on the board in the fourth inning, loading the bases and pushing a run across with an RBI walk by Roberts. Junior Casey Magyar then followed up with a run-scoring groundout to pull the Red & White within one at 3-2.
The teams then traded runs in each of their next two at bats before the Duhawks struck for three runs in the six inning. The Raiders pulled one run back in the seventh inning, but Loras went ahead 12-3 with a five-run eighth inning.
MSOE did not back down, staging a one-out rally in its final at bat. The team had six-straight batters reach base, with Carrington, Newman and Roberts each singling in runs.
Roberts' run-scoring infield single left the bases loaded, but the LC pitching staff induced a pop out and got a strikeout to end the game.
The Raiders close out their Florida trip Saturday with a single game against Coe.
