GLENDALE, Wis. – The MSOE men's tennis team did not drop a point in sweeping aside Concordia Chicago and Dominican, both by a 9-0 score, on the final day of the regular season Saturday at Elite Club-River Glen.
The Raiders (10-9, 8-1 NACC) clinched the No. 2 seed in next weekend's NACC Tournament with wins over the Cougars (1-7, 1-6 NACC) and the Stars (5-9, 4-4 NACC).
MSOE now has a bye into the NACC Semifinals, where it will take on an opponent to be determined next Saturday in Madison.
Four different Raiders were perfect on the day, as seniors Zachary Dam and Matthew Slaughter, and sophomores John Price and Tom Smith each went 2-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles play.
Dam played at No. 1 singles, winning his CUC match 7-5, 6-3, and defeating his Dominican opponent 6-2, 6-1. Slaughter, who played at No 3 singles, was his doubles partner in the No. 1 slot and the duo cruised to 8-3, 8-0 wins. In singles, Slaughter won his matches 6-2, 6-2 against Concordia and 6-3, 6-1 vs. DU.
Price and Smith were also doubles partners, winning 8-1 and 8-0, respectively, at No. 2. Price played at No. 2 singles and opened with a 6-0, 6-3, win and closed on a 6-0, 6-0 victory. Smith played at No. 4 against the Cougars, winning 6-0, 6-0, and posted a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5 vs. the Stars.
Sophomores Mason Sauder and Austin Campbell played in the No. 3 doubles slot for both matches, winning 8-2 and 8-0.
Rounding out singles play was a double-winner in senior Andrew Kosasih and individual performances by sophomores David Gorodetsky and Kyle Fassbender. Kosasih won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5 against CUC and was victorious vs. Dominican 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6.
Gorodetsky stepped into the No. 4 role in the night match against DU, winning 6-2, 6-2. Fassbender played at No. 6 in the afternoon and won 6-3, 6-1.
