Box Score MILWAUKEE – Freshman Jason Burant collected four hits and drove in three runs as the MSOE baseball team defeated Elmurst 12-9 Wednesday evening at The Rock Complex.
The Raiders (9-28) hammered out 15 hits in scoring 10-plus runs in a game for the second time this season and avenging a 9-1 loss to the Bluejays (12-25) earlier this season.
Junior Ryan Miller had three hits and scored four runs in the game, while freshman Jimmy Carrington finished with a pair of hits including his first collegiate home run.
Elmhurst got on the board first with solo home runs in each of the first two innings for a 2-0 lead.
MSOE responded with four runs in the second inning, capitalizing on two Bluejay errors, and built a 6-2 lead with two more runs in the third.
Freshman Ryan Newman and junior Casey Magyar had RBI singles in the second. In the third, the Raiders posted back-to-back singles to lead off the frame. The first run came around on an errant pick-off attempt and Burant singled through the left side to score the second.
Back-to-back home runs by Elmhurst knotted the score at 6-6 in the fifth inning, but the Red & White responded immediately by manufacturing a run in the bottom of the frame. Miller led off with a single, moved up on a sacrifice bunt, and reached third on a wild pitch. Senior Jake Roberts then scored him on a groundout.
Another four-run inning in the sixth inning opened a five-run Raider lead at 11-6. Junior Tyler Doyle had an RBI single and Carrington followed with a home run to left. Four batters later, Burant brought in another run with a double.
The Bluejays would not go away, pulling back three more runs with two outs in the seventh inning. MSOE, though, got another RBI single from Burant in the eighth for an additional insurance run and the Raider bullpen closed out the game.
Freshman Michael Boehmer (2-4) posted his second-straight win with 2.2 innings of relief. Senior Josh Kundinger tossed a scoreless frame and sophomore Brandon McCumber closed out the final 1.1 innings for his second save of the season.
The Raiders return to action next Wednesday at Division I Milwaukee.
