BELOIT, Wis. – Senior Brittany Kelley and freshman Pauline Scharping each won both their singles and doubles points, but it was not enough as the MSOE women's tennis team opened the 2015 season with a tough 5-4 loss at Beloit Tuesday afternoon at the Strong Complex Tennis Courts.
The Raiders (0-1) opened the match with a pair of doubles wins, but scored just two more points in singles as they fell to the Buccaneers (1-0).
Kelly teamed with freshman Cali Bonie for an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles to start the day. Then, playing at No. 4 singles, Kelly scored a 7-5, 12-10 win.
For Scharping, she was paired with senior Melanie Avery at No. 3 doubles and was victorious, 8-6. She came back during the singles portion of the match to forge a hard-fought 6-4, 1-6, 10-8 win.
MSOE will take another stab at its first win of the season Wednesday, playing at Carroll.
