Box Score MILWAUKEE – Senior Aly Loepfe scored two goals, including the golden goal in the 93rd minute to lead the MSOE women's soccer team to a 3-2 win over Lake Forest Wednesday evening at Viets Field.
Loepfe converted a penalty kick in the first extra frame to give the Raiders (4-2) the victory over the Foresters (3-2-1).
Junior Ally Brehm earned the penalty kick, chasing down a slow-roller to the LFC keeper. The ball came lose and she was judged to have been taken down going for the loose ball.
It was Loepfe's second goal of the game, as she opened the game's scoring in just the third minute. Junior Becca Keller picked up the first of two assists on the night when she sent a cross into the box, which was let to run past the far post. Loepfe collected the ball and lofted a shot across the face of goal and into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead.
Lake Forest fought to assert some momentum going forward, but the Red & White defense was up to the task deep in its own zone. LFC was not able to break through until the 38th minute when Lindsay Hartup knotted the game at 1-1 with a high shot from the top of the penalty area that tucked in under the cross bar.
In the second half, the Raiders started to pull back the offensive momentum in the second half, leading to the go-ahead score. Keller sent a 71st-minute corner kick to the near post. Junior Erika Spanbauer's run took her towards the corner and redirected the ball past the keeper to make it 2-1.
The Foresters did not go quietly, pulling back even again in the 84th minute after a corner kick had cleared the box. The ball was re-served in front of goal and Moly Major found the back of the net to force overtime.
MSOE finished with a 14-9 shot advantage in the match, putting eight shots on target and earning two more corner kicks than the visitors (5-3). Sophomore Mary McFee started the game in goal and made one save in one half of work. Junior Sydney Stephens played the remainder of the game and stopped one shot to earn the win.
The Raiders return to the field Saturday, playing at Dominican in their NACC opener.
