Golden Goal Sinks Raiders at Whitewater in Opener

Box Score

WHITEWATER, Wis. - Taylor Ortiz scored less than eight minutes into overtime as UW-Whitewater handed the MSOE men's soccer team a 2-1 defeat in a physical match Wednesday evening at Fiskum Field.

The Raiders (0-1) fell behind early in the second half to the homestanding Warhawks (2-0), but leveled the score quickly on sophomore Braden Andryk's unassisted goal just over two minutes later.

The score remained unchanged throughout the remainder of regulation and much of the overtime period. Ortiz latched onto a pass from Dylan Hottsmith and found the back of the net to give Whitewater the win.

Andryk led the team with 11 goals as a freshman last season.

Whitewater held a 18-12 shot advantage in the game, while there were 43 fouls called and seven yellow cards issued. UWW was whistled for 25 fouls with five cards, while MSOE had 18 fouls and saw two cards.

Junior Sean Stelter got the start in goal for the Red & White, making five saves. Alex Buchmanmade five saves for the Warhawks.

The Raiders returns to the field this weekend for their home opener, hosting St. John's Saturday and Augsburg Sunday.
