Raiders Fall Short at Alverno

MILWAUKEE – Senior Michelle Roubik won both her singles and doubles points, but it was not enough as the MSOE women's tennis team fell to Alverno 5-4 Wednesday afternoon at McKinley Courts.

The Raiders (4-9, 4-4 NACC) won two doubles points for an early 2-1 lead, but the Inferno claimed the top four singles points to come away with the match.

Roubik teamed sophomore Carly Grant at No. 2 doubles for the pairing's sixth win in seven matches, a 9-7 win. Then, Roubik won her singles match in the No. 5 position 7-6 (6-4), 3-6, 6-3.

Freshmen Monika Gurdak and Cali Bonie added MSOE's other doubles point in the No. 1 slot, scoring an 8-6 victory. The Red & White narrowly missed out on a doubles sweep, as No. 3 doubles went to a tiebreaker with Alverno prevailing 9-8 (7-2).

Senior Melanie Avery rounded out the winners with a hard-fought, three-set win at No. 6, 6-4, 4-6, 10-5.

The Raiders close out the fall season with three matches this weekend. They play Wisconsin Lutheran and Concordia Saturday at CUW, then host Westminster Sunday.
