Box Score MILWAUKEE – Three different players scored goals as the MSOE men's soccer team shut out Saint John's 3-0 for its first win of the season Saturday afternoon at Viets Field.
The Raiders (1-1) took an early lead in the ninth minute through sophomore Braden Andryk and benefited from a 16th-minute red card for the Johnnies (1-1) to keep the visitors at bay.
Andryk got the ball rolling early, being played into the box from a ball out wide. He had three shots at the goal, but Kevin LeBahn stopped the first two shot attempts before Andryk's persistence paid off for his second goal of the season and the eventual game-winner.
Senior Logan Andryk gave the Red & White another advantage, as he took a ball and wriggled through the SJU defense at the top of the box. He was dragged down by the last defender, who was sent off for the infraction. Andryk then sent the ensuing free kick just off the post as the score remained 1-0 at halftime.
In the second half, Logan Andryk once again put himself in the right place, proving too much to handle for a defender and drawing a penalty kick after being dragged down. He stepped up to the spot and doubled the Raider advantage in the 57th minute.
Senior Brock Shilling capped the scoring almost eight minutes later on a nicely lobbed through ball from senior Jorn Witte. The ball over the top of the defense put Shilling past the defense and, after one bounce, Shilling drilled a volley into the net.
After earning the man advantage, the Raiders did well to limit the Johnnies' offensive chances. Junior Sean Stelter made four saves in goal to preserve the shutout before giving way to freshman Riley Bruce after 75 minutes.
MSOE returns to the field Sunday, taking on its second-straight MIAC foe at Viets Field and welcoming Augsburg to town for a 1 p.m. kick-off.
