Raiders Fall in Overtime at Marian 100-96

Box Score

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – Junior Collin Seubert scored a career-high 30 points and the MSOE men's basketball team shot nearly 59 percent, but it was not enough as it fell to Marian 100-96 Tuesday evening at Sadoff Gymnasium.

The Raiders (7-6, 4-4 NACC) overcame a 14-point deficit and hit a clutch basket to force overtime, but their luck ran out in the closing seconds of overtime against the Sabres (6-8, 3-6 NACC).

Seubert, who hit a buzzer-beater in this matchup last season, finished 11-of-14 from the field and 5-for-6 from three-point range for MSOE's second-straight game with a 30-point scorer. Senior Austin Stueck, who tallied 38 points last Saturday, finished with 18 points and senior Connor Patterson notched 16.

Marian had five players score in double-figures, led by Alex Manhardt's 21. Carvell Oliver scored 16 points and Alex Stecker and Reggie Roemer had 15 points apiece. Connor Morovits added 14.

In the final minute of overtime, MU pulled away 97-93, but freshman Max Wojcik hit a three-pointer to make it a one-point game with 15 seconds to go. After the home team made both free throws, the Raiders' game-tying three-pointer was off the mark at the nine second mark and the Sabres went back to the free throw line to ice the game.

It was a key Seubert three-pointer that forced overtime. After Morovits hit a three-pointer to break an 86-83 tie in the final minute, Seubert followed suit to equalize. Both teams then committed a turnover in the final four seconds to send the game to overtime.

The Raiders finished the game shooting 58.7 percent from the field, including 8-of-20 from three-point range. They also finished 14-of-20 at the free throw line. Marian was nearly as hot on the night, finished at 55.1 percent overall and hitting on 10-of-20 three-point tries. It also went 14-for-18 at the charity stripe.

MSOE trailed by as many as 14 in the game, including after the first basket of the second half. The score was 61-48 when the Red & White rattled off a 10-0 run to pull within 61-58 on a Seubert layup. Then, after senior Garrison Glowniak scored four-straight points the Raiders led 64-63.

The game was tight back and forth down the stretch before Marian pulled away for an 81-75 lead. Stueck and Seubert then hit back-to-back three-pointers to tie the game again and set up the exciting final moments of regulation.

Seubert's 83.3 percent shooting from three-point range is tied for the second-best performance in school history, while his overall shooting figure of 78.6 percent is tied for the 10th. Meanwhile, Stueck moved to third in NACC hostory with 1,630 points, just 89 points from second place.

The Raiders have a quick turnaround, returning to the court Thursday at home, hosting Lakeland.
