Box Score MILWAUKEE – Senior Austin Stueck hit the game-winning jumper with 3.7 seconds remaining to lift the MSOE men's basketball team to a 65-64 victory over Concordia Wisconsin Wednesday evening at the Kern Center.
The Raiders (7-4, 4-2 NACC) trailed the Falcons (6-6, 4-4 NACC) by as many as eight in the second half, but rallied for their fifth-straight win.
Stueck finished with a game-high 21 points on 9-of-14 shooting, scoring MSOE's last seven points and grabbing seven rebounds. Senior Connor Patterson scored 14 points to go with six rebounds, while freshman Max Wojcik tallied 11.
Junior Collin Seubert scored seven points, all in the second half, and grabbed eight rebounds.
Brad Pinsen led Concordia Wisconsin with 19 points and Eric Kittel added 16.
Stueck hit a long go-ahead jumper with 3.7 seconds remaining to give the MSOE the 65-64 lead and force a CUW timeout. On the ensuing possession, Taron Edwards' three-pointer from the top of the key fell short.
The Raiders had jumped out to a 28-20 lead in the first half with just under eight minutes remaining in the first half on the strength of a 9-0 run. The visitors then answered with an 18-5 run to close out the first half and take a 38-33 lead into halftime. That run was extended to 23-7 early in the second half, as MSOE went without a field goal for 7:31 and CUW built a 43-35 lead.
The Red & White batted back, turning a 47-40 deficit into a 50-47 lead with a 10-0 streak. Stueck hit a jumper to start the stretch. Seubert followed with a layup and three-pointer back-to-back before Stueck punctuated the run with a three with 11:00 remaining in regulation.
Concordia Wisconsin retook the lead with an 8-2 run for a 55-52 lead, but MSOE remained withing three points until the final minutes.
Stueck hit back-to-back baskets, including a layup in transition, to put the Raiders back in the lead at 63-62 and force the Falcons into a timeout with 1:11 remaining. Coming out of the timeout, Pinsen hit a jumper in the paint with 59.1 seconds remaining and CUW grabbed a defensive rebound about 20 seconds later.
Seubert grabbed a defensive rebound with 13 seconds on the clock, leading to Stueck's go-ahead score.
The Falcons shot 53.6 percent in the first half, but the Red & White defense allowed the visitors just 32.1 percent shooting in the second half as it battled back. CUW finished at 42.9 percent for the game. MSOE finished the night shooting 44.8 percent from the field, including 46.4 percent in the decisive second half.
After a 5-0 record on an extended homestand, the Raiders will return to the road Saturday at Aurora.
