Women's Soccer Handles Alverno in 4-0 Win

Box Score

MILWAUKEE – Four different players scored and the MSOE women's soccer team forced a 46-1 shot advantage in rolling past Alverno 4-0 Saturday afternoon at Viets Field.

The Raiders (7-2-1, 3-0 NACC) defeated the Inferno (5-4, 1-3 NACC) to continue a five-match unbeaten streak (4-0-1) and remain unblemished in conference play.

MSOE dominated possession, but struggled at times to break down a compact Alverno defensive game plan. The home team also found itself frustrated by the woodwork, as it rattled the frame four times in the match with two shots off the cross bar and two more off the posts.

Junior Missy Schultz finally broke through for the first goal in the 23rd minute, getting her head on the end of senior Becca Keller's corner kick. It was her first goal of the season.

Senior Maria Schumacher doubled the advantage before halftime, running on to a short clear and finding the back of the net from 25 yards out.

Despite leading only 2-0 at halftime, the Raiders had a 25-0 shot advantage and had just one touch by their goalkeeper in the first 45 minutes.

MSOE went back to work in the second half and added two more goals in quick succession—2:19 apart—in the 59th and 61st minutes.

Senior Caitlin Liddiard received a pass from Schultz and floated a shot over the keeper from 25 yards to make it 3-0. Shortly thereafter, Girmsheid capitalized on a failed AC clear, blasting a one-time shot from 10 yards out after a corner kick to cap the scoring at 4-0.

In addition to the lopsided shot totals, the Red & White also took all 13 corner kicks in the match.

All four of the team's keepers saw time and did their part to preserve the shutout. Junior Mary McFee once again made the start in goal and registered the win with nearly 30 minutes of action.

The Raiders have a quick turnaround, returning to action Sunday at Lake Forest in a break from league play. It will be their fourth match in six days and fifth in nine days dating back to Sept. 24.
