Women's Soccer Thumps Lakeland on Senior Day 6-0

Box Score

MILWAUKEE – Senior Sara Travia scored three goals and assisted on another as the MSOE women's soccer team posted a decisive 6-0 victory over Lakeland on Senior Day Wednesday evening at Viets Field.

The Raiders (13-3-1, 8-0 NACC) honored its 14 seniors at halftime and saw all six goals and three assists on the night come from its senior class. It was a complete performance as they outshot the Muskies (2-13-1, 1-7 NACC) 36-0 on the night.

With the win, MSOE clinched a top-two finish in the NACC standings and a bye into the semifinals of the NACC Tournament. With one more win or an Edgewood loss, it can clinch at least a share of the league regular season championship and the No. 1 seed.

Erika Spanbauer, Caitlin Liddiard and Anna O'Donnell also scored goals, with O'Donnell and Kait Riley adding assists.

It was Spanbauer who got the scoring started with the eventual game-winner in the 11th minute, collecting a short clearance and hitting a shot from the top of the box. Travia then followed with back-to-back goals in the 22nd and 29th minutes, dribbling through the defense for the first goal and finishing off an O'Donnell assist for the second.

Liddiard hit a shot from the top of the box in the 33rd minute to make it 4-0 heading into halftime.

Riley helped extend the advantage in the 60th minute, sending a dangerous cross at the goal, which squirmed through the keeper's hands and Travia pounced on the ball for a tap-in to complete her hat trick. Travia then set up O'Donnell's score with a sharp diagonal cross to the far post, which O'Donnell beat her mark to for another tap-in in the 64th minute.

The Raiders clicked on both sides of the ball, dominating possession for nearly the entire game. Lakeland did have a couple forays into the attacking third, but the defense snuffed out each attempt before the visitors could make an attempt on goal.

With such a large, the Red & White was able to field an entirely senior starting eleven. Haley Anderson got the start in goal and picked up the win with just over 62 minutes of work. Freshmen Abbie Lorenz and Allison Lessila closed out the shutout in goal.

MSOE has now won 15-straight NACC games and 18-straight matches against NACC teams, including the post-season. It will look to extend that streak Saturday when it hosts Wisconsin Lutheran.
