Liddiard Scores Late to Lift Women's Soccer Past LFC

Box Score

LAKE FOREST, Illinois – Senior Caitlin Liddiard scored the game-winner with just under four minutes remaining in regulation to send the MSOE women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Lake Forest Sunday afternoon at Farwell Field.

The Raiders (8-2-1) extended their unbeaten streak to six games (5-0-1) in their fifth game in a nine-day span against the Foresters (6-5-1). They also won a match when conceding first for the fourth time in five such matches this season.

With the score knotted at 1-1 for nearly 50 minutes, senior Sara Travia tracked a ball down the end line. She cut back to create some room with her defender and sent a cross into the center of the penalty area, just outside the six-yard box. Liddiard met the cross with her left foot and sent a full volley into the net for the winner. It was her fifth goal of the season and second game-winner in nine days.

LFC had gotten on the board first with a quick score just 71 seconds after the opening whistle, but MSOE responded. It gained the upper hand over the rest of the half to the tune of a 10-2 shot advantage and equalized in the 38th minute.

The goal came off a corner kick from senior Becca Keller, with Travia finishing off a leaping kick in the box for her ninth goal of the season.

In the second half, play evened out with neither team threatening much. Neither team put a shot on target in the half until Liddiard's equalizer.

Shots finished 1606 in favor of the Raiders. Corner kicks also went the way of the Red & White, 4-3.

Junior Mary McFee continued her strong run in goal with a pair of saves for her eighth win of the season. Rachel Tenuta stopped a pair of shots, as well, for Lake Forest.

After a four-match week, MSOE's schedule will return to normal this week with just two matches on the docket. The Raiders host Aurora Wednesday as they look to build on their 3-0 start to league play.
