Men's Soccer Plays to 2-2 Draw with WLC

Box Score

MILWAUKEE – Wisconsin Lutheran netted an equalizer in the 88th minute as the MSOE men's soccer team was forced to settle for a 2-2 draw Saturday afternoon at Viets Field.

The Raiders (10-7-1, 5-3-1 NACC) responded to an early goal by the Warriors (8-6-4, 4-3-2 NACC) with a pair of unanswered scores, but could not hold off the visitors late in regulation.

Junior Brandon Herman scored his first collegiate goal and junior Braden Andryk knocked in his 20th goal of the season for MSOE. Meanwhile, senior Jeff Clements made 11 saves on Senior Day.

WLC got on the board first in the 18th minute through Marco Perez's long-distance shot. Herman, however, would answer back quickly with a rebound goal in the 22nd minute to even the score.

The score would remain tied until the 76th minute when Andryk broke through on goal 1v1 and beat the keeper. He put his side ahead, as well as became the first player in school history with multiple 20-goal seasons.

The Raiders looked to be closing out the tough victory when Nick Zupinski cleaned up a poor clear attempt in the box in the 88th minute to force overtime. The Warriors had all of the shots in extra time, nearly ending the game, but hitting the cross bar, just over a minute into the second overtime period.

WLC held a 26-13 shot advantage for the match, putting 13 shots on target. Clements did well to keep the Red & White in the match with a season-high in saves. Erek Lehnen made six saves for the visitors, including on a penalty kick early in the second half.

With the result, MSOE officially clinched a place in the NACC Tournament and currently sits third with 16 points. It holds a one-point advantage over Wisconsin Lutheran and two point edge on Concordia Wisconsin with one game remaining. The No. 3 and No. 4 seeds will host NACC First Round games on Oct. 30, while the fifth and sixth seeds will play on the road in those matches.

The Raiders close out the regular season Wednesday, hosting Concordia Chicago.
