MILWAUKEE – The MSOE women's tennis team punched its ticket to the NACC Tournament for the first time since 2011 and picked up its sixth win of the season with a 6-3 victory over Lakeland on the final day of the fall season Saturday afternoon at McKinley Marina.

The Raiders (6-10, 4-5 NACC) fell to Concordia Wisconsin 9-0 in their first match of the day, but bounced back to defeat the Muskies.

The win over LU, combined with a Dominican loss to Alverno, secured MSOE a spot in the NACC Tournament. It will be the Red & White's first conference tournament since 2010, while the sixth win matches the team's highest win total since 2008.

The Raiders claimed two of three doubles points and won the top four positions of singles to get past the Muskies. Junior Carly Grant, freshman Sammy Soeder and sophomore Cali Bonie were each double winners in the match.

Grant and Soeder teamed for an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles, then posted straight-set victories in the top two singles positions. Grant downed her opponent at No. 1, 6-0, 6-0, while Soeder won 6-1, 7-5 at No. 2. Bonie picked up her doubles point at No. 3 by a score of 8-4 with freshman Katie Kershaw. She then turned her attention to No. 4 singles and won 6-2, 6-3.

Sophomore Monica Gurdak rounded out the point-getters in singles play, handily defeating her foe at No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-0.

With the fall season complete, MSOE turns its attention to the spring conference tournament. The Raiders officially tied for fifth place and will be the No. 6 seed. They will play at the No. 3 seed when the NACC Tournament opens May 2. In preparation, the team will play a spring schedule, which will be posted on GO-RAIDERS.com when it is complete.
