Box Score RIVER FOREST, Illinois – The MSOE men's basketball team fought within one point later, but could not hold off a late charge by Dominican in falling 61-52 Saturday afternoon at Igini Sports Forum.
The Raiders (1-5, 1-3 NACC) tied the game at 41-41 with 8:44 remaining but trailed by just one despite not hitting a field for over five minutes. The Stars (5-3, 3-1 NACC) then closed the game on an 11-3 run to put the game out of reach.
Senior Alex Darville led MSOE with 14 points and eight rebounds off the bench. Senior Collin Seubert scored 11 points and junior Tegan Miles finished with 10.
Tim Robertson paced the home team with a 20-point, 10-rebound double-double. Josh Mayberry added 16 points.
The Red & White led 29-27 at halftime and then as late as with 10:38 remaining at 39-37 on sophomore Jason Palesse's layup. The Stars soon tied the game, forcing the Raiders to play from behind down the stretch.
Darville tied the game for the last time at 41-41 with a layup. Despite missing its next five shots and going 5:10 without a made field goal, MSOE hung in the game by going 5-for-6 at the free throw line.
Sophomore Ben Volkmann snapped the cold streak with a three-pointer at the 3:34 mark to pull within 50-49, but Robertson answered with a three-pointer, followed by a three-point play as the Stars began to pull away.
MSOE shot 33.3 percent in the game, including 5-for-19 from three-point range. The team also got to the free throw line 21 times, making 13. Dominican shot 42.3 percent, burying 6-of-13 three-pointers and committing just nine turnovers.
The Raiders return to action Tuesday at former NACC foe Maranatha Tuesday.
