Raiders Drop Road Contest at Dominican

Box Score

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Senior Austin Stueck scored 33 points and the MSOE men's basketball team shot 63.2 percent in the first half, but Dominican reversed the trend in the second half and pulled away for a 97-90 victory Saturday afternoon at the Igini Sports Forum.

The Raiders (12-11, 9-9 NACC) shot just 35.3 percent after halftime as the Stars (5-18, 3-15 NACC) got the hot hand in the second half, shooting 57.6 percent and overtaking the visitors.

Stueck shot 11-of-17 for the second-straight game, this time burying seven 3-pointers on 11 attempts for MSOE. Senior Connor Patterson finished with 18 points after going 10-of-11 at the free throw line and freshman Max Wojcik added 12 points off the bench.

Dominican put four in double-figures led by Tim Robertson's 29 points and Josh Mayberry's 24, both off the bench. Antonio Amoah led the starters with 19 points and Derek Steck picked up 14 in a reserve role.

The Raiders led 48-47 at halftime and clung to a 58-56 lead on a Stueck three at the 15:38 mark of the second half. Steck answered with a trey for DU to start a 10-2 run in just over a two-minute span to take the 66-60 lead.

MSOE pulled within three points on three-different occasions with a pair of Patterson free throws making it 85-82 with three minutes remaining. Unfortunately, Dominican responded with eight-straight points and the Red & White could not rebound.

The Raiders shot 45.3 percent for the game, hitting on 10-of-25 from three-point range and 32-of-39 at the free throw line. Meanwhile, the Stars finished at 50.7 percent from the field, including 7-of-12 on three's. They also hit 18 free throws in 22 attempts.

Dominican held advantages of 38-31 in rebounds and 10-12 in turnovers, but was able to translate those into notable edges in second chance points, 14-5, and points off turnovers, 23-9.

MSOE heads into the final week of the season at 9-9 in conference play and in a four-way tie for fourth place in the NACC standings, with a fifth team checking in at 9-10. Those five teams are vying for the final three tournament berths.

The Raiders close out the regular season hosting two of those teams, taking on 9-10 Marian Wednesday and 9-9 Rockford next Saturday.
