Raiders Fall to WLC on Half-Court Buzzer-Beater

Box Score

MILWAUKEE – Tanner Shieve banked in a half-court buzzer-beater to give Wisconsin Lutheran a 73-70 victory over the MSOE men's basketball team Wednesday evening at the Kern Center.

The Raiders (11-9, 8-7 NACC) led the Warriors (10-10, 8-7 NACC) for over 31 minutes of the game and the final three-point deficit was the largest of the night for the home team.

Senior Austin Stueck led MSOE with 22 points. Senior Connor Patterson and junior Collin Seubert scored 12 points each.

Collin Kennedy was the game's top-scorer, leading WLC with 29 points and 11 rebounds. Schieve finished the night with 19 points and Jake Jarnigo chipped in 11.

The score was tied at 70-70 after Jim Marose made the second of two free throw attempts. The Raiders brought the ball up the court and held for a last shot. Seubert's three-pointer from the corner was off the mark.

Marose grabbed the rebound and found Schieve with a quick outlet. He beat the buzzer with a shot from the sideline just inside half-court and saw his attempt bank into the basket to decide the game. It was the second-straight game that Schieve hit a half-court buzzer beater to give the Warriors a win.

As mentioned, MSOE played from ahead for most of the night, but could not shake Wisconsin Lutheran. Senior Brent Radlinger hit a three-pointer from the corner to give the Red & White a 68-67 lead. A pair of free throws put WLC ahead before Seubert countered with a pair of free throws to make it 70-69.

Marose's game-tying free throw came with 28 seconds remaining and set up the final sequence.

The Raiders shot 49.1 percent from the field on the night, hitting on just 5-of-17 from three-point range, but making 13-of-17 at the free throw line. The Warriors, meanwhile, finished at an even 50 percent from the field, making 6-of-16 three-pointers and going just 13-of-22 at the free throw line.

MSOE returns to the court Saturday, hosting Aurora at the Kern Center.
