Women's Soccer Routs Dominican 7-0 in NACC Opener

Box Score

MILWAUKEE – Senior Sara Travia scored three goals and assisted on another as the MSOE women's soccer team opened NACC play with a 7-0 rout of Dominican Saturday afternoon at Viets Field.

The Raiders (4-2, 1-0 NACC) opened the scoring in the 14th minute with the first of back-to-back goals in 33 seconds on their way to a 4-0 halftime lead over the Stars (2-3, 0-1 NACC).

Junior Kelsey Hailey netted the eventual winner with a 40-yard free kick, then Travia latched onto a through ball from senior Kait Riley just moments later to double their team's advantage. Senior Maria Schumacher then buried a 25-yard free kick of her own in the 36th minute and senior Ally Brehm made it 4-0 off a junior Melina Lynn assist just over three minutes later.

The Raider starters re-entered the game at halftime and capped the game's scoring with three goals in a span of 7:23. Senior Caitlin Liddiard and Travia put junior Kassidy Girmscheid through on a breakaway in the 51st minute and Liddiard found Travia with a cross for a goal in the 57th.

Liddiard played Travia into the box again just 1:22 later, but Travia's initial shot was saved. Travia stuck with it and tucked the rebound into the net.

Every active player on the roster played in the match, as four keepers rotated in to secure the shutout. Junior Mary McFee made the start and made four saves in just under 60 minutes to earn the win. Senior Haley Anderson and freshmen Abbie Lorenz and Allison Lessila split the rest of the game.

The Raider offense was as efficient as the scoreline indicated, building a 20-7 shot advantage in the game with 11 shots on goal. The defense was equally as effective, limiting the Stars' offensive opportunities.

The hat trick was the fourth of Travia's career, while she moved past Paula Bohl (2010-13) for second in school history with 54 career goals scored.

MSOE returns to the field Wednesday, playing at Marian. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
