ROCKFORD, Illinois – The MSOE women's tennis team dropped just eight points total over six singles matches during a decisive 9-0 victory over Beloit Friday afternoon at Boylan High School.
The Raiders (3-4) avenged a 5-4 loss to the Buccaneers last season.
Despite the lopsided nature of the singles results, there was some relative excitement to the doubles competition, coming in the No. 2 position. Junior Riya Chaudhari and sophomore Kim Baffin emerged from a marathon 11-9 match to secure the point.
Junior Carly Grant and freshman Sammy Soeder had no problem at No. 1, 8-0, and sophomore Cali Bonie paired with freshman Katie Kershaw for an 8-3 win at No. 3.
Grant extended her singles win streak to six matches with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles. She moved to 6-1 on the season. Soeder conceded a point in each set of a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles, while Bonie was victorious 6-1, 6-2 at No 3.
Baffin at No. 4 and sophomore Monika Gurdak at No. 5 shut out their opponents 6-0, 6-0. For Gurdak, it was her singles season debut.
Freshman Olivia Boden closed out the sweep with a 6-2, 6-0 win in the No. 6 position.
The Raiders have won three of their last four and return to action Sunday, hosting Edgewood and the McKinley Marina Tennis Courts.
