APPLETON, Wisconsin – The MSOE women's volleyball team won the first set, but could not build on that momentum in falling to Lawrence in four sets Saturday afternoon at Alexander Gymnasium.

The Raiders (1-12) opened the non-league match with a 25-21 win, but fell to the Vikings (5-10) for the second time this season with scores of 25-16, 25-13, 25-16 over the final three sets.

Sophomore Hannah Pekarek led the way for MSOE with nine kills. Senior Sarabeth Haworth led three players in double-figures in digs with 12 and senior Madeline Molnor notched three solo blocks in the match.

Arianna Neumeyer led Lawrence with 14 kills, while Sydney Nelson had 11 and Rachel Barthel finished with 10.

The Red & White posted its best set of the afternoon in the opener as it finished the day at -.008. The team hit just .045 in that winning set, but was able to limit LU to .023 attacking. It marked the second time this season the Raiders took the first frame of a match.

In the first game, MSOE pulled away several times, but each time Lawrence managed to answer and pull within one. It was 21-20 before the Raiders made its final run, closing it out with four of the final five points.

The score was tied 10-10 in the second set when the home side broke open the frame with a 9-1 run and never looked back. A protracted 15-4 run undid the Raiders in the third set, while the Vikings just steadily pulled away to finish the match in the fourth.

MSOE returns to the court Tuesday at Maranatha.
