SHEYBOYGAN, Wis. – The MSOE wrestling team won the final five matches to overcome a 22-6 deficit and defeat Lakeland 31-22 in a dual meet Friday evening at the Wehr Center Fieldhouse.
The Raiders (1-4) picked up their first dual victory of the season by beating the Muskies for the third-straight season.
MSOE trailed 22-6 after 157 pounds, but senior Garret Gross got the team back on track with a fall in 3:45 at 165 pounds. It was just his second win of the season, but was also his second fall. Senior Devon Mahnke returned to the mat at 184 pounds and scored an 8-2 decision. It was his first match since taking third at the North Central Open Dec. 10.
Freshman Josh Lang made it 22-21 with his fourth-straight victory at 184 pounds. He secured a third-straight win by fall, doing so in just 1:59. It was his fourth pin in his last five bouts.
A forfeit at 197 pounds the Raiders way gave them the lead at 27-22 and senior Devin Mahnke closed out the win in a rare cameo at 285 pounds. In his first collegiate match at the weight, he won 10-2 and clinched the victory.
The match also featured forfeits at 125 and 133 pounds benefiting Lakeland, while MSOE also scored with a forfeit at 141 pounds.
The Raiders return to action next Friday and Saturday at the Pet Willson Invitational.
