MILWAUKEE – The MSOE women's volleyball team went right at Aurora, but could not hold off the visitors in suffering a 25-22, 25-18, 25-17 sweep Saturday afternoon at the Kern Center.

The Raiders (12-15, 4-6 NACC) got off to some fast starts in sets and battled back late at times, but could not hold off a Spartans (20-6, 9-1 NACC) squad that entered the match having won 12-of-13.

Senior Rachel Lynde led the attack with 11 kills in the match, while the defense was bolstered by the back-row efforts of senior Aleah Quast with 28 digs in just three sets and junior Hannah Pekarek with 18 digs to go with seven kills.

Ava Pauly had 10 kills for Aurora and Katie Vondra added nine.

The Raiders got off to a strong start in the first set, jumping out to an early 8-3 lead. AU responded with a 15-5 run to establish an 18-13 advantage. MSOE did not go down without a fight, pulling within 22-20 late and fending off a pair of set points.

The Spartans scored six of the first seven points of the second game and did not look back in taking a 2-0 lead in the match.

The final game was compelling, as the Raiders started off on the front foot at 5-2. Aurora rushed back for a 10-6 lead, but MSOE regrouped and came back to even the score at 16-16. Unfortunately, AU scored nine of the matches next 10 points to claim the victory.

MSOE hit .079 for the match against .148 for the visitors. The Red & White did, however, hold the Spartans well below their season attack percentage of .238 thanks to 64 digs. It was the team's second-straight match averaging better than 20 digs per set.
