Box Score MILWAUKEE – Freshman Gracie Horton scored two goals and assisted on a third as the MSOE women's soccer team defeated Marian 5-2 Wednesday evening at Viets Field.
The Raiders (4-7, 2-1 NACC) scored three times in the first half, then two more times after the break to hold off the Sabres (5-6, 2-3 NACC) for their second-straight win.
Freshman Brooke Zidek also had a goal and assist while senior Missy Schultz and sophomore Jeray Riffel added goals.
Horton opened the scoring in just the third minute off an assist from Zidek. Zidek sent a shot across the face of goal, which was saved to the near side. Horton was there to slot the rebound home for a 1-0 lead.
Marian would equalize just under four minutes later before Zidek netted an unassisted goal in the 20th minute. She pressured the Sabre defense and managed to get a foot on a ball ahead of the goalkeeper and send it into the net.
Riffel then made it 3-1 at in the 24th minute just over 30 seconds after subbing into the game. Horton was out wide and sent a pass into the box, Riffel tracked the ball before hitting a shot from eight yards out on her first touch of the night.
Horton then got her second goal to open the second-half scoring in the 51st minute. Senior Melina Lynn laid off a through ball for Horton, who ran into the box and beat the keeper.
The Sabres pulled a goal back in the 62nd minute, as Alicia Balken scored her second goal of the night to make it 4-2. Schultz then immediately put the game out of reach with a response just 51 seconds later. MSOE drew a foul just outside the top of the box. Schultz took the set piece and buried a shot in the net to re-establish the 5-2 lead.
Senior Mary McFee made four saves in the match to earn the win.
The Raiders dominated the stat sheet, outshooting the visitors 25-8 and forcing a 7-2 advantage on corner kicks.
MSOE returns to action Saturday, hosting Wisconsin Lutheran at 4 p.m.
