Men's Basketball Falls Behind Early at Carroll

WAUKESHA, Wisconsin – The MSOE men's basketball team fell behind early and could not recover in falling to Carroll 82-51 Tuesday evening at Van Male Fieldhouse.

The Raiders (5-4) struggled to get their offense going early while the Pioneers (3-6) shot over 50 percent in the game to pull away.

Sophomore Matthew Kirmse scored 14 points for MSOE. Sophomore Travis Ballard added eight points off the bench.

Tanner Zaeske finished with 14 points for Carroll. Charlie Soule had 12 points and Ray Pierce tallied 11 points.

The Pioneers led wire-to-wire, scoring 10 of the first 12 points of the game and expanding that lead to as many as 14 in the first half. The home team saw its lead peak at 31 points for the game in the final minute of regulation.

MSOE shot 34.7 percent for the night, including a tough 2-for-15 from three-point range. The Red & White did get to the free throw line 21 times, converting 15 (.721). The Pioneers hit on 11 three-pointers in the game, shooting 53.4 percent overall.

The Raiders hit the road after the holidays, playing at the Mary Hardin-Baylor Tournament Dec. 28-29 in Belton, Texas.
