MILWAUKEE – Senior John Price won both his singles and doubles matches, but it was not enough as the MSOE men's tennis team dropped a hard-fought match to St. Norbert Sunday afternoon.
The Raiders (1-6) dropped three singles points in three sets against the Green Knights, creating a match much closer than the score would have it appear.
Price opened his day teaming with freshman David Chon at No. 1 doubles and securing an 8-2 victory and evening the partners' record at 3-3 this season. In singles play, Price scored a 6-1, 6-4, win.
Senior Mason Sauder rounded out the Red & White's point-scorers with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles.
MSOE fell in three sets at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 6 singles despite winning the first set each time. Senior Tom Smith won his first set at No. 2, 7-5, but dropped the second set and was edged in the decisive frame 7-6 by a 7-3 tiebreaker. Junior Ryan Runke opened with a 6-4 win, but dropped his close tie break in the second set, 7-6 (8-6) before falling in the third set 6-1. Freshman Curt Norton started with a 6-3 win, then fell 6-3, 6-1 in the next two sets.
The Raiders return to action Saturday against Northwestern in Madison.
