NAPERVILLE, Illinois – The MSOE men's tennis team posted at No. 1 doubles, but fell to North Central 8-1 in its season-opener Saturday afternoon.
The pairing of senior John Price and freshman David Chon played to an 8-5 victory in doubles to open the day.
MSOE did have three singles matches go to three sets, while Price's match at No. 1 singles consisted of two hard-fought sets in a 7-6, 7-6 loss. Chon played at No. 2 singles and pushed his opponent to three sets winning the second 6-1 after a tough 6-0 loss. He then fell in the tie-break 10-4.
Senior Tom Smith at No. 3 rebounded from a tough 7-5 loss in the first set to take the second 6-4, but dropped the tie-breaker 0-6. Meanwhile, senior Mason Sauder shook off a 6-0 loss at No. 6 singles to win set two 6-4. He also fell in the tie-break 10-6.
The Raiders return to the court Sunday, hosting Lawrence.
