WHITEWATER, Wisconsin – Junior Ryan Newman collected three hits to extend his hitting streak to 16 games as the MSOE baseball team fell to No. 3 UW-Whitewater 21-4 in seven innings Tuesday afternoon at Miller Field.

The Raiders (16-11) saw their eight-game winning streak snapped at the hands of the Warhawks (21-3), who hit eight home runs in the game.

Newman is batting an even .500 (34-for-68) during his hitting streak, raising his batting average 206 points to .433 on the season.

Freshman D.J. Ellifson also had two hits and two RBIs in the game.

MSOE scored first in the game with a two-out rally. Junior Jimmy Carrington was hit by a pitch to get it started and junior Garrett Willems followed with a single. Ellifson then scored Carrington with a single up the middle.

Whitewater answered right back with four runs in the bottom half of the inning and extended its lead to 10-1 with a six-run fourth inning.

The Raiders did fight back to score three runs in the fifth. Freshman Joe Gilpin walked and senior Brandon McCumber singled. Newman then plated a run with a double and Carrington drove in another run with a ground out. Two batters later, Ellifson doubled in Newman to make it 10-4.

The Warhawks had another four-run frame in the bottom half of the inning, then scored seven times in the sixth to cap the scoring. The game was then ended after seven innings due to a pre-agreed run rule.

Five pitchers saw time on the mound for the Red & White. Freshman Nathan Tremore (1-1) got the start and suffered the loss with 2.0 innings of work.

Despite reaching base as a hit batter and driving in a run, Carrington saw his 14-game hitting streak come to an end in the loss.

The Raiders return to the field Saturday with a NACC doubleheader at Wisconsin Lutheran. First pitch is at noon.
