KENOSHA, Wisconsin – Junior Ryan Runke won his match at No. 6 singles to lead the MSOE men's tennis team in action against Carthage Saturday afternoon at Smeds Tennis Center.
The Raiders (7-16) fell to the Red Men (10-12) 8-1 on the day, with a pair of losses in singles play going to three sets.
Runke was the team's lone winner on the day, opening with a 6-0 win in the first set. After falling in the second, also 6-0, he won the tiebreaker in decisive fashion, 10-4.
Matches at No. 1 and No. 4 singles were also very tight, with freshman Luke Nelson dropping the third-set tie-breaker 10-8 after splitting the first two sets by identical 6-3 scores. In the top position, senior John Price edged his opponent 7-6 (7-4) in the first set, then fell 6-1 and 10-5 in the tiebreak.
MSOE returns to league play Wednesday at Concordia Wisconsin in its regular season finale. The Raiders are one of two one-loss teams in the league with CUW the lone unbeaten. A win would clinch a share of the regular season title for the Red & White.
