Box Score MILWAUKEE – A header off a corner kick in the 78th minute broke a 1-1 tie and saw the MSOE men's soccer team fall to Dubuque 2-1 Wednesday evening at Viets Field.
The Raiders (3-2) had tied the game through senior Braden Andryk's 60th career goal only to see the Spartans (4-1) prevail on Kyle Klatka's game-winner.
The game was tied at 1-1 for just over 54 minutes when a corner kick went the way of UD. Andrew Guelle sent the set piece to the far post where Klatka was to head home the deciding score.
MSOE pushed for the equalizer but could not generate the chances necessary to tie the game in the closing minutes.
Shots finished 15-11 in favor of the Spartans but the Raiders held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Andryk's score came exactly four minutes after the visitors had taken a 1-0 lead. Senior Sean Tabbert launched a counter-attack after a Dubuque play in the box. He saw Andryk breaking near the midline and played a long ball over the defense. Andryk ran onto the pass and converted the breakaway with ease.
The goal pulled Andryk within one of Logan Andryk's school record of 61 career goals. It was also his 18th-straight game with a point.
Junior Riley Bruce made three saves in goal for MSOE. A pair of keepers split time for UD, with Pat Openchowski collecting the win by playing the second half.
The Raiders now have a week off before returning to the field Sept. 20 against Edgewood in the NACC opener for both teams.
