MILWAUKEE – The MSOE women's tennis team swept matches with Dominican and Aurora, 9-0 each, without dropping a set in continuing a perfect start to the season Saturday at the McKinley Park Tennis Courts.
The Raiders (4-0, 3-0 NACC) continued to improve on last season's results, a trend that has been present in each of their first four matches of the season. In this case, MSOE had defeated DU 7-2 last season and lost to AU 5-4.
The lineup remained the same for both matches, with singles going senior Carly Grant, sophomore Sammy Soeder, freshmen Cierra Smith and Katie Clements, senior Riya Chaudhari, and sophomore Olivia Boden in the No. 1-6 slots, respectively.
Grant and Soeder manned the top spot in doubles pay, with Clements and Smith playing at No. 2. The No. 3 doubles partnership was juniors Kim Baffin and Cali Bonie, who did not drop a point against the Stars in the opener.
Grant won her matches 6-3, 6-1 against the Stars and 6-1, 6-0 against the Spartans. Soeder was victorious 6-3, 6-0 in both matches. Their doubles victories came 8-1 and 8-3.
The rookies in the middle of the lineup put up similarly dominating performances. Smith won 6-2, 6-3 and by a perfect score of 6-0, 6-0 in her matches. Clements went 6-2, 6-0 and nearly matched her partner in the second 6-0, 6-1. In doubles, the duo won 8-3, and 8-1.
Chaudhari had the day's most relatively exciting match, winning 6-5, 7-5 (7-5) against Dominican. There was no such drama in her second outing, a 6-1, 6-0 win. Boden's scores were similar match-to-match, opening her day 6-2, 6-1 and closing it 6-1, 6-2.
The doubles pairing of Baffin and Bonie shut out their DU opponents 8-0 and nearly repeated the feat, 8-1, against AU.
The Raiders look to continue their run Wednesday at Marian.
