Women's Volleyball Knocks Off Ripon For Second Time

RIPON, Wisconsin – The MSOE women's volleyball team went on the road and defeated Ripon for the second time in 10 days on the second day of the Ripon Invitational Saturday at Weiske Gymnasium.

The Raiders (7-7) downed the Redhawks (3-9) 25-22, 25-20, 17-25, 26-24 Saturday after rebounding from an opening set loss on Sept. 6 to win the final three sets on the same court. MSOE then dropped its final match of the tournament to Carroll (6-7), 17-25, 25-17, 25-21, 26-24, to finish with a 2-2 record.

Senior Abby Born, who became the program's all-time leader for career assists Friday, was named to the all-tournament team.

The Raiders capitalized on 13 services aces against Ripon to overcome just .071 hitting and claim the match. Junior Hannah Pekarek led the team with 15 kills and added 12 digs. Senior Rachel Lynde had 11 kills and 13 digs.

Senior libero Aleah Quast led the parade of aces with five. She also had 24 kills to pull within 17 of 1,000 for her career. Junior Elsey Kohlmann added three aces and Pekarek chipped in two.

Jonalee Elliott paced Ripon with 10 kills.

In the tourney's final match, MSOE switched up its lineup, with sophomores Kylie Kamm and Kaylie Butt taking the offensive lead. Kamm notched 12 kills and 13 digs while Butt had 10 kills. Freshman Megan Brock also finished with 10 kills, rounding out a double-double with 16 digs.

Sophomore Allie Laurent directed the offense with 29 assists in an all-round strong outing that included 15 digs and six kills on 11 kills (no errors) for a .545 attack percentage. Sophomore Shelby Borchardt was the match-two libero and had a team-high 20 digs.

The Red & White hit over .200 for the second time in the tournament, and third time in six matches, with a .206 clip. The team outhit the Pioneers' .195 percentage for the match.

Dana Voltolina had a team-high 11 kills for Carroll and Cassidy Mrotek had 10.

The Raiders return to league play Wednesday at Lakeland.
