MILWAUKEE – Three different players tallied goals, including a pair of first-time collegiate scorers, as the MSOE men's soccer team opened conference play with a 3-1 win over Edgewood Wednesday evening at Viets Field.

The Raiders (4-2, 1-0 NACC) canceled out the Eagles' (5-2, 0-1 NACC) opening goal just 30 seconds later, then struck for two goals in the second half to pull away.

Freshmen Lucas D'Amato and Carson Albert were the rookie goal-scores, but it was senior Brandon Herman who came away with the game winner.

Edgewood scored first when Garrett Lee wriggled free from a defender to go through on goal and convert in the 23rd minute. MSOE wasted little time in pushing forward for the equalizer. D'Amato received a pass from his brother, senior Sam D'Amato, at the top of the box and let a shot go. His attempt clipped a defender's leg and dipped over the keeper to level the game at 1-1.

The match remained tied until early in the second half when the Red & White was awarded a free kick from 40 yards out. Senior Braden Andryk sent the free kick into the penalty area, where sophomore Drew Baumann rose above the defense to head the ball down. Herman then swept the ball into the net for the eventual deciding score in the 57th minute.

About 22 minutes later, Albert produced an insurance goal to secure the victory. With the Raiders pressing forward, a long throw sailed into the box. A defender got a head on the ball, then another tried to chest the ball to the keeper. Albert intercepted the try and tucked into the goal from point-blank range.

MSOE controlled the momentum for long stretches of the match but could not shake off the Eagles, who burst forward with dangerous intent a number of times. Junior Riley Bruce proved to be up to the task, making six saves to earn the victory. He made several reaction stops, including back-to-back saves in the dying seconds of the opening half.

Dan Dombrowski started in goal for Edgewood and also had six saves. Shots were 17-11 in favor of the Red & White, while the home team conceded a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.

Andryk's assist gave him a point in each of his last 19 games dating back to last season.

The Raiders return to the field Saturday at Maranatha. Kick-off is at 2 p.m.
