STEVENS POINT, Wisconsin – The MSOE women's tennis team saw its school-record six-match winning streak come to an end with a pair of losses Sunday afternoon at University Tennis Courts to Lawrence and UW-Stevens Point.
The Raiders (6-2), who had won their first six matches of the season, fell to the Vikings 6-3 then 9-0 to UW-Stevens Point.
MSOE won matches at No. 2 doubles and No. 4 and 6 singles. The freshman pairing of Cierra Smith and Katie Clements secured the doubles point with an 8-1 victory.
In singles play, sophomore Olivia Boden moved up to No. 4 for the first time this season and scored a 6-3, 6-1 victory. The final win came by default in the sixth singles position.
The Raiders fought hard against Stevens Point and looked to press the Pointers in a couple of matches. The top two doubles matches were close with scores of 9-7 at No. 1 and 8-6 at No. 2. Then, in singles, sophomore Kim Baffin made her season singles debut and pushed her opponent to three sets at No. 5 before falling.
MSOE returns to league play Wednesday at Marian. The match was postponed from last Wednesday.
