Horton Lifts Women's Soccer Past WLC, 1-0

Box Score

MILWAUKEE – Despite a 21-1 shot advantage, it was sophomore Gracie Horton's 60th-minute goal that propelled the MSOE women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Wisconsin Lutheran Saturday afternoon at Warrior Soccer Field.

The Raiders (7-7, 4-2 NACC) had 13 shots, including nine on target, by halftime but did not crack the Warrior (6-6, 3-3 NACC) defense until the second half.

Horton's goal was assisted by freshman Veronica Mangio and came on a counter attack. Mangio played a through ball out of the midfield, which Horton ran onto. With her first touch, Horton went around the sliding keeper. She then calmly blasted a shot just under the crossbar into the open goal.

The score would hold up as the Red & White defense did the rest of the work in preserving the shutout. Juniors Abbie Lorenz and Allison Lessila, once again, split the game in goal. Neither was called on to make a save.

The Raiders outshot the home side 8-1 in the second half and had a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks in the match.

MSOE has won three-straight games and returns to the field Wednesday, hosting Concordia Chicago.
