Box Score MILWAUKEE – Freshman Jill Ruark scored on a rocket from 30 yards out to cut the deficit to 2-1 but the MSOE women's soccer team was unable to find the equalizer in a 3-1 loss to UW-Whitewater Sunday afternoon at Viets Field.
The Raiders (4-6) looked to capitalize on the momentum of Ruark's goal but found their path cut short by a third Warhawk (6-3-1) goal that out the game out of reach.
Trailing 2-0 in the 69th minute, sophomore Nora Adkins laid off a ball to Roark in the middle field. With minimal prep, the Oshkosh native sent her shot to the top corner of the goal in the far post.
The goal revitalized the Red & White attack as it looked its most dangerous in the attack in the proceeding minutes. UW-Whitewater was able to withstand the pressure and countered with its third goal in the 83rd minute to make it 3-1.
Anna Boyd scored two goals for the visiting Warhawks, getting the scoring opened up assisted in the 15th minute. She tacked on the eventual game-winner in the 66th minute, back-heeling a shot inside the penalty area. That goal preceded Ruark's strike by less than three minutes.
UWW held a 14-9 shot advantage in the game, including 10-5 in shots on goal.
Junior Abbie Lorenz made the start in goal and finished with a pair of saves in 45 minutes. Junior Allison Lessila played the secomd half and stopped five shots.
The Raiders will look to reverse their fortune when they return to the field Wednesday at Dominican.
