Errors Play A Factor In Doubleheader Split

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

KENOSHA, Wis. – It certainly wasn't baseball weather, but they got through it. MSOE baseball opened up their NACC schedule this afternoon against Illinois Tech, dealing with less than ideal weather conditions. The Raiders ventured on however, splitting with the Scarlet Hawks on Saturday afternoon in southeast Wisconsin.

RESULTS

Game One
Illinois Tech – 9
MSOE Raiders – 11

Game Two
Illinois Tech – 7
MSOE Raiders – 3

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game one got off to a smooth start for MSOE (4-12, 1-1 NACC), who scored six runs in the first two innings. The first batch of runs was assisted by two IIT (5-9, 1-1 NACC) errors, allowing all four unearned runs to score. The Scarlet Hawks third error of the ballgame also ushered in two runs in the bottom of the second, putting the Raiders up 6-0 early. It looked like the Red & White were going to cruise to the opening victory up 6-1 headed into the eighth, but Illinois Tech went on to score six runs in their half of the inning. Thankfully the Raiders were able to rebound, plating five of their own in the bottom half, and kept the Scarlet Hawks from rallying in the ninth to hang onto the 11-9 victory.

Game two was a different story. This time it was MSOE who was committing the errors, seeing five of them spread throughout the second game of the doubleheader. Of the seven runs that IIT scored, only four were charged to Raider pitching. All was quiet until the third inning when Illinois Tech plated two runs on back to back singles. The Scarlet Hawks added one in the fourth before putting four up in the sixth. Down 7-0, the Raiders embarked on a small rally, scoring three in the bottom half of the sixth via two singles and a double play that plated a run. MSOE would only get three hits from that point on however, and weren't able to overcome their miscues in the 7-3 defeat.

RAIDER REMARKS
MSOE is still looking for their first twin bill sweep of the season, as they've split all three they've been a part of during the 2019 campaign.
