Box Score RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Riding high on a six-game winning streak, the MSOE men's basketball team headed to the Windy City to take on the Cougars of Concordia Chicago. Unfortunately, their shooting game did not travel with them as the Raiders shot just 36.4 percent for the game in an overtime loss to CUC on Saturday afternoon.
RESULT IN OVERTIME
MSOE – 81
Concordia Chicago – 89
HOW IT HAPPENED
One key part to the MSOE (11-8, 8-6 NACC) six game winning streak was missing this afternoon, that being their offensive shooting percentages. In each of their wins between Jan. 11th and Jan. 29th, the Raiders shot at or near 50 percent from the field. Saturday afternoon was a different story, however. The Red & White took 66 shots in their contest against Concordia Chicago (7-12, 6-8 NACC), but only made 24 of them. The issues were worse from behind the arc, as they made just 17.6 percent of their attempts. Even after all that though, MSOE was still in contention for the win thanks to near record-breaking free throw totals. The Cougars put the Raiders at the line 36 times, with the good guys converting on 30 of them. Three Red & White starters scored 14 or more points, led by Matthew Kirmse, who not only was one rebound shy of a double-double but helped send the game into overtime with two successful free throws with less than 30 seconds left after the Raiders battled back from a four point halftime deficit. Unfortunately, they couldn't pull off any extra basketball magic as MSOE was forced to foul when they got down late, leading to eight CUC points from the charity stripe and giving us the difference in the 89-81 loss.
