Women's Soccer Falls By Slimmest of Margins

Box Score

DUBUQUE, Iowa – MSOE women's soccer ended a five-year absence from the NCAA tournament this afternoon when they stepped on to the pitch at Loras College to take on Calvin. Unfortunately, the Raiders will have to travel back to Milwaukee without a win as they fell to the Knights 2-1.

RESULT
MSOE RAIDERS – 1
Calvin – 2

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Playing through the worst weather they've seen all year, MSOE (16-5-0, 12-1-0 NACC) netted the game's first goal early thanks to an Emma Halverson corner kick that sailed into the back of the net in the ninth minute.
  • The Raiders defense took over from there and only allowed one Calvin (13-3-1, 6-1-0 MIAA) shot on goal to preserve their slim lead heading into halftime.
  • Unfortunately, it was all Knights once play resumed. Calvin played with the wind at their backs in the final 45 and scored two goals to tie the game and surpass the Raiders.
  • The Red & White managed four second half shots, two of which were on goal, but couldn't get the equalizer as their NCAA tournament run comes to and end with a 2-1 loss.
