Box Score MILWAUKEE – 18 Days. That is how long it has been since the men's basketball team of MSOE has taken the court in an official game. It was a long layover but worth the wait. The Raiders played a back-and-forth game with visiting Concordia Chicago and were able to move to 2-0 on the season with last second free throws and a one-point victory on Monday night.
FINAL SCORE
Concordia Chicago – 73
MSOE RAIDERS – 74
HOW IT HAPPENED
MSOE (2-0, 0-0 NACC North) had to shake off the rust early in this one as Concordia Chicago (0-4, 0-2 NACC South) was going to make them earn every single point tonight inside Hotchkin Arena. The Raiders were able to put together a 12-point lead in the first half with just under nine minutes to go before the Cougars turned up the pressure. CUC used a full court press and aggressive defense to force the Raiders to commit 16 first half turnovers. The Red and White shot well when they were able to take their time and set up an offense, however. MSOE shot 60 percent (12-20) in the opening 20 minutes and actually improved on that by 6.7 percent in the second. The Cougars effort allowed them to secure a six-point lead going into the intermission, but the Raiders quickly chipped away at that. Most of the 11 ties and 10 lead changes came in the second half with the last swing coming extremely late in the contest. Down 73-70, MSOE scored the last four points of the ballgame within the 27 seconds remaining to take back the lead for good. Two Sammy Linn free throws with three seconds left put the last nail in the Cougars coffin, as the Raiders pull out a one point win over CUC.
RAIDER REMARKS
- Both teams performed well in the paint tonight as the majority of the 147 points scored came from underneath the hoop (86)
- The Raiders were quiet from three-point land, taking only three shots from behind the arc all night.
