MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – The 2020-21 season for MSOE women's tennis kept rolling right along on Saturday afternoon. The Raiders, who had yet to play a doubleheader all season, took on both Wartburg and Cornell on the road. Unfortunately, the Red & White are still in search of their second win of the campaign after falling to both the Knights and Rams in Iowa.

Cornell – 6
HOW IT HAPPENED
There was not much to write home about in MSOE's (1-3, 0-0 NACC) 9-0 loss to Wartburg (12-3, 7-1 ARC) to open up the day's action. The Raiders already were giving a point to the Knights thanks to an injury preventing them from fielding players in the No. 6 singles spot and the No. 3 doubles slot, but the Red & White did not win a single set in any of the matches they competed in against one of the best teams from the American Rivers Conference.
The Raiders had better luck against Cornell (4-4, 0-0 Midwest), though they once again gave up automatic points in the No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles spots. Cierra Smith and Katie Clements secured an 8-2 victory in the top pairs position, with Smith winning her singles match 7-5, 6-2. Yuti Modi was also a winner for the Raiders, taking her match out of the fifth position 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (9-7). Clements and Cameron Larson both came close to grabbing wins as well, but both fell in third set tiebreaks.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Red & White will have their first home match of 2021 on Wednesday when they host North Park. First serve is slated for 3:00 pm.
