HOW IT HAPPENED
Today's games were almost carbon copies of themselves. MSOE (3-3, 1-3 NACC North) would be very competitive in one set, held their own in another, and just could not keep up in the decisive frame in each contest. Marian (2-4, 2-4 NACC North) opened up game one with a 25-18 victory, a set where the Raiders had as many kills as they did errors. A -.160 hitting percentage followed in the next game for the Red & White before heading into the final stanza that required extra points for Marian to win. Back and forth went the Sabres and MSOE but it was MU that would earn the two-point victory 26-24. Quinn Borchert led the team with seven kills and three blocks.
Game two started out just like the last ballgame ended. The Raiders held a three-tally advantage most of the way before it turned into a back-and-forth affair. Down 24-20, the Red & White rallied to tie things at 24-24 but could not secure back-to-back points after that in a 29-27 loss. MSOE had their best hitting set of the afternoon in frame number two with a .200 attack percentage but were not able to get Marian to give up their early lead in a 25-19 defeat. Set three was one to forget as the Raiders committed 10 errors in a 25-15 final stanza loss. Borchert once again paced the home team with 10 kills and five blocks.
