Golden Goal Sends Raiders To Championship Game

Box Score

MILWAUKEE – Having already lost one double overtime game this week, MSOE men's soccer knew they could not let it happen again. Fortunately, they came out on the winning end of things and will advance to the NACC Northern Division championship game with a thrilling 2-1 victory over Marian.

RESULT IN DOUBLE OVERTIME
No. 3 Seed Marian – 1
No. 2 Seed MSOE RAIDERS – 2

HOW IT HAPPENED
It is always nice when history does not repeat itself. No. 2 seed MSOE (7-2-0, 7-2-0 NACC North) took on No. 3 seed Marian (4-5-0, 3-5-0 NACC North) for the third time this year after two previous victories over the Sabres. While this contest had a lot of action towards the conclusion, there was not much in the first 59 minutes. Neither team could find the scoresheet in the first half and it was not until Marian scored in the 60th minute that someone would put a crooked number up on the scoreboard. Things looked bleak for the Red & White with time ticking down in regulation, but Connor Dees changed that with 48 seconds left to play. After the ball deflected off a Marian player, the freshman buried it in the upper corner to tie the game. The first overtime was scoreless which meant the game would either end via golden goal or penalty kicks. Konrad Knap went with the former. The junior squeaked his shot just inside the far post to give the Raiders the 2-1 victory and send them to the championship game.
