Box Score 2 MEQUON, Wis. – MSOE baseball lost their first game of the NACC north division playoffs yesterday afternoon, putting them in a precarious position. The Raiders would need to rattle off four straight wins in order to advance to the NACC Championship Series. After Saturday's action, they are halfway there. The Red & White eliminated both No. 4 Lakeland and No. 1 Marian to stay alive in the postseason.
RESULTS – NACC NORTH DIVISON TOURNAMENT
No. 2 seed MSOE RAIDERS – 9
No. 4 seed Lakeland – 7
No. 2 seed MSOE RAIDERS – 6
No. 1 seed Marian – 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
No. 2 seed MSOE's (18-15, 13-7 NACC North) first opponent of the afternoon was No. 4 seeded Lakeland who, just like the Raiders, lost the day prior. It was a tense elimination game that saw both offenses produce. Thankfully, the production out of the Red & White's bats was better. The Raiders scored seven runs between the second, third, and fourth innings, capped off by a Micah Overley two run blast and a Charlie Gannon 3 RBI double. The Muskies would hang around though. The Fish scored three in the third and two in the fourth to draw within a pair. Needing some insurance runs, MSOE plated two more in the eighth as Gannon contributed again with a home run that brought home Justin Bickman. Cole Raines got the two inning save as the Raiders moved on to the second elimination game of the day.
The challenge was a little tougher in the nightcap as No. 1 seed Marian was waiting for them when they returned to the ballpark. However, the Raiders were not phased. The Red & White opened the scoring with a run in the top of the second before the Sabres scored a run in both the second and third to take the 2-1 advantage. Raiders pitching shut the door on any more production out of the MU offense though, allowing the MSOE hitters to complete the comeback. The Red & White tied the game with one in the sixth before scoring four in the seventh to seal the deal. Chris Barnes had four RBIs and Jeffery Stanish earned his fourth win in the 6-2 victory.
WHO'S ON DECK
