Raiders Sail Past Aurora

Box Score

AURORA, Ill. – MSOE women's soccer continued their quest for top playoff seeding when they took on Aurora on the Spartans home turf. Not only did the Raiders secure their third straight shutout victory, they also locked down a home game in the NACC tournament with a 5-0 win on Saturday night.

RESULT
MSOE RAIDERS – 5
Aurora – 0

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Aurora (6-8-3, 4-7 NACC) proved to be not that difficult of an obstacle for MSOE (12-3-4, 8-1-2 NACC) as the Raiders were in control from start to finish. The game winning goal came just 2:34 after kickoff when Grace Quinn set up Addison Spilman to make it 1-0 Raiders.
  • Nicole Robb made it 2-0 off of her fourth penalty kick conversion of the year and assists from Faith Papazoglou and Leena Afifi allowed Elizabeth Kuhn to give the Red & White a 3-0 lead before halftime.
  • The Raiders scored quick to begin the game, but they scored even quicker to start the second half. Quinn netted an unassisted strike just 47 seconds into the back half of the contest to put MSOE up 4-0. Quinn would then get her second helper of the night when she set up Jill Ruark in the 66th minute for the last goal of the game.
  • Reagan Tompkins and Page Sanchez weren't too busy as each were forced to stop just one shot in the Raiders 5-0 win over the Spartans.

RAIDER REMARKS

  • The Raiders have now won four straight against Aurora and are 9-1 against them in their last ten meetings.
  • With Dominican claiming the NACC crown and Edgewood and St. Norbert claiming the fifth and sixth seeds, there are three teams still left in the mix for the first-round bye. The Raiders will have a home game but whether that is to be in the first round or the semifinals is yet to be determined. That outcome will depend on the results of not only MSOE's last game of the season but also on the results of Illinois Tech and Concordia Wisconsin's matches.
