Box Score MILWAUKEE – MSOE women's soccer entered play with a chance to punch their ticket to the NACC championship game which would be played at Viets Field if they could knock off third seeded Illinois Tech. The Raiders battled back to tie the game with a last second goal, but the Scarlet Hawks used the same trick to win the ballgame after two overtime periods on Tuesday night.
RESULT – DOUBLE OVERTIME
No. 3 Illinois Tech – 3
No. 2 MSOE RAIDERS – 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Second seeded MSOE (13-4-4, 9-1-2 NACC) received a first round bye in the NACC tournament and came in with fresh legs against a third seeded Illinois Tech (18-2-2, 9-1-2 NACC) team that last played just a few days ago. The Raiders used that reserved energy to get on the board first when Addison Spilman put back an Olivia Carroll rebound in the 18th minute.
- The slim 1-0 advantage would hold up until midway through the second half when the Scarlet Hawks scored back-to-back goals within seven minutes of each other to quickly turn the tables and enter the last 20 minutes of play with a 2-1 lead.
- Maggie Thillman picked a pretty good time to score her first collegiate goal as she knocked in the game tying tally with 33 seconds left in regulation.
- The first overtime came and went without anyone finding the scoresheet, but in a cruel twist of fate, IIT scored the game winner with less than 50 seconds left before penalty kicks to take the game and advance in the NACC tournament 3-2.
