Raiders Victorious In Double Overtime Thriller

Box Score

PASADENA, Calif. – After a loss to begin their holiday break trip, MSOE men's basketball tried to come away with a split during their time in California when they took on Caltech. The Raiders battled back from a large second half deficit to force overtime and were eventually able to come away with the 2OT marathon win over the Beavers on Friday afternoon.

FINAL SCORE – DOUBLE OVERTIME
MSOE RAIDERS – 89
Caltech – 83

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • MSOE (6-5, 2-2 NACC) started off the contest with a respectable first half, but Caltech (4-6) took the five point edge into halftime behind seven shots made from behind the arc.
  • After the Beavers increased their lead to 13 to begin the second frame, the Raiders went right to work and shot 54.8 percent from the field to help close the gap. The Red & White finally pulled even with 8:45 left to play in regulation but saw themselves faced with a five point deficit once again with just over a minute and a half left in the ballgame.
  • Down by three after Caltech split a pair of free throws, Matus Dopirak put up another clutch shot and tied the game with a three pointer with 17 seconds left. Neither team scored in the time remaining which sent the contest into overtime. The Red & White jumped out to a five point advantage of their own in the first frame of free basketball but weren't able to score in the last 2:55 in the period which sent the game into 2OT.
  • It was all MSOE in the second overtime though. The Raiders scored the first five points and netted nine of the 12 tallied in the stanza to take home the thrilling win to conclude their time on the West Coast.

RAIDER REMARKS

  • The Raiders are now a perfect 6-0 against Caltech in a series that dates back to 1997.
