Raiders Tack On 36 Runs In Sweep Of IIT

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CHICAGO – MSOE baseball plated a total of 29 runs against Wisconsin Lutheran on Saturday in a sweep of the Warriors. Apparently, they didn't think that was enough. The Raiders scored 24 runs in the first game alone and added 12 more in the second as the Red & White swept Illinois Tech in the Windy City.

RESULTS
MSOE RAIDERS – 24
Illinois Tech – 3

MSOE RAIDERS – 12
Illinois Tech – 4

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Game One
    • MSOE (17-13, 12-4 NACC) put up 24 runs in just seven innings against Illinois Tech (7-24, 3-12 NACC) in the first game of their doubleheader on a blustery day in the city of Chicago. The Raiders also recorded 18 hits and walked eight times.
    • The Red & White jumped out of the gate with 11 runs in their first two trips to the plate. Collin Truitt, Blake Hall, Kyle Labedz, Nolan Wojciechowski, Nathan Kennedy, Chris Barnes, and Micah Overley all registered and RBI during this time span with Truitt, Hall, Labedz, and Wojciechowski each bringing home a ribbie in both the first and second inning.
    • MSOE added 13 more runs from the third frame on which was more than enough run support for starter Nolan Vincent who earned his third win of the season with six innings of three hit ball.
    • Truitt's homered twice in the game, tying him with Owen Burnikel at the top of the single season home run record with nine. Burnikel set the record back in 2017.
  • Game Two
    • The offense in game two wasn't as prolific but was still good enough to score half the runs they did in game one. However, this time the Raiders were put in a 3-1 hole right up until the midway point of the contest.
    • They quickly turned the game around in the top of the fifth though. The Red & White homered three times in the inning but not before Josh Beier stole home to score and kickstart the rally. IIT was limited to just one run after that point while the Raiders would go on to add six more.
    • Leo Burmeister picked up the first win of his career with three solid innings of relief pitching as the Raiders earned their sixth NACC victory in a row.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES

  • Game One
    • Collin Truitt: 3-for-3, five runs scored, five RBIs, two home runs
    • Nolan Vincent: 6.0 innings pitched, three hits allowed, eight strikeouts
  • Game Two
